I have been hunting for information about ShoppyBag, due to the influx into my inbox by messages that I have been "tagged in a photo" by people who are unlikely to even own a picture of me.
I have found dozens of complaints, but no real answers. Since I haven't visited the ShoppyBag site (and have no intention of doing so), I can't address how it gets its email addresses. But there are enough people posting to say that they did NOT import their address book that it leads me to believe that ShoppyBag does, in fact, exploit a security hole in either the browser itself or the email providers (perhaps by assessing the session variables that are active in the browser for remaining logged into the email provider). The emails themselves lack any real information about ShoppyBag or what the site offers - just "you have been tagged in a photo." There is no way to unsubscribe from the influx of emails.
If it is such a great site, why are they using such cryptic and spammy methods? At the very least it is an email address harvester. They now have several of my addresses, and I have never even visited their site.
Let's spread the word far and wide - just say NO to ShoppyBag and its spammy ways.
Tell your friends: if you should ever see something from ShoppyBag in your Inbox delete it unopened. I don’t care that it appears to have come from your best friend. (It probably did, if your best friend was suckered.) Do not try to “unsubscribe”.
